DESCRIPTION OF THE SCHOOL
The Priory Catholic Primary School is a smaller than
average primary school situated close to the Nottingham/Derbyshire
border. It was built forty years ago to serve the families
of Our Lady of Good Counsel, Eastwood and the majority
of pupils still come from Eastwood.
68% of the children
are baptised Catholic with 32% from other Christian
denominations.
There are no children of other World
Faith backgrounds. The children are from a wide variety
of social and economic backgrounds including the ‘Surestart’ area
of Eastwood yet most of them have attainment on entry
in line with national expectations.
Very few children
are from minority ethnic groups. Only 3% have English
as an additional language. Pupil’s eligible for
free school meals is below average.
Although the number of pupils with learning difficulties
is average this varies significantly between year groups.
Due to staff turnover and illness the school is currently
employing a number of temporary teachers.
